Vintage hydroplanes on Lake Washington in Seattle, unknown photographer. I remember these from when I was a child growing up in Seattle, they would have races every year. These boats have the old Allison aircraft engines that were used in fighter planes during World War II. This a color photo that would have been taken at a shutter speed of 1/1000 or more to freeze the action so that we can see the colorful liveries of the boats and identify which ones they are. Even though the action is frozen the rooster tails give the impression of great speed. The photo has been cropped to improve the composition, the constricted height and long length increasing the impression of speed.
