Another nature photo from my friend Larry Libby. I assume the ellipse is apparent, formed by the pond and the trees and their reflection. Of course it doesn’t really exist, it is our brains creating orderly shapes out of the images it receives. He has used a medium aperture and shutter speed to get some depth of field and stop the motion of the bird alighting on the water. There is something unearthly about this image, the mist and early morning light evoking a feeling of mystery.
